The Nurse Intern program is designed to allow nursing students to broaden their knowledge base and skills prior to graduation from nursing school. It also gives the nursing student a chance to work side by side with an experienced nurse and to see what hospital life is truly like. Some of the benefits of being an Intern at JCMH are:
- Development of organization skills
- Learning to care for a group of patients
- Enhancement of technical skills
- Further development of nursing thought process
- More rapid transition post-graduation
Interns at JCMH are allowed to perform many tasks and to actually work as a nurse (under the direction of a licensed nurse). Some programs limit this but we have found it greatly improves the skill set of our future nurses by allowing them to function in this capacity.
This is a wonderful opportunity to "jump start" your nursing career, earn money and better prepare yourself for your career.
Application process for Summer Nurse Intern Program
Nursing students who have successfully completed the first full year of all classroom and clinical work in an A.D.N. program and/or through the junior level of a B.S.N. program may apply for the Nurse Intern Program. Upon application they must show proof of citizenship or eligibility to work in the U.S. The following must be completed and submitted to Human Resources by the deadline date, generally March of each year)
- JCMH employment application
- Nurse Intern application (the student will select three clinical areas of interest designated as their first, second or third choice)
- Signed Letter of Intent
- Nurse Intern Reference Sheet
- Singed JCMH Nursing Code of Professional Conduct
The students will then meet with nurse managers and members of the Nurse Intern Committee for an interview. Then the Nurse Intern Program Coordinator will notify students of their selection or non-selection within 7 days following the interview process. After their selection, they will attend a Nurse Intern program training with a luncheon to meet their preceptor.
Through our Summer Intern Program we offer a select number of educational scholarships to Interns who stand out over the course of the program. These scholarships cover the entire final year of nursing education at their selected school of study including tuition and books. Work performance, attitude and aptitude are all considered in awarding these Intern scholarships each summer. This is our way of rewarding those students that we see as future stars in the nursing profession.
